Deathmatch Levels s-u

I really like this one. Reminded me of 'The Slimy Place', and that's a good thing. Consisting of mostly catwalks over slime, there is little room for error. Really separates the calm, collected players from the nervous and jumpy ones. Thankfully there is a teleporter in the slime (well...really on a platform floating on the slime) that help those over anxious players stay alive. Textures are amazing though out the map, adding great detail to an already stunning map. Weapon placement is excellent and player starts are positioned well. Another must get map that I thoroughly enjoyed. Keep up the good work.

This level really kicked. It was great from the beginning to the end. It was fairly balanced throughout the level, most weapons were there. The outside area was nicely done with a spot in which to fling ammunition down on your opponent, hehe. The architecture is great, it has a new type of elevator that I have not seen before, really nice looking. It is to bad that he did not make the elevator go up more. The lighting was kind of erie and its too bad that you cannot equip levels with new music. If you could, you would probably want to use a Ambient Doom track. Overall this DM level is really cool and you should try it, if not for yourself, for your country, hehe. Well, get it and stop reading my lame review.

This very vertical map sports very fast play and not a lot of stuff to hide behind (nothing at all, really :). A good, solid deathmatch map that really should be played with at least six, maybe seven people. In fact, the more people you get into this huge map, the more fun it is gonna be. In the text file the author hints at more maps along the same line. Large but sporting low r_speeds, this map offers a refreshing deathmatch experience by not making you hunt down your opponent. Highly recommended.

This promises to be a great deathmatch level. There are a lot of cool effects in it and it seems to be very well balanced and should prove to be a lot of fun. The lighting is very nice and there are some special effects which were really cool. The level layout was superb with many things to do and go to. Get this one today and start wasting your friends =)

Authored by- Mark Major (aka Shmitz)
Another great deathmatch level from Mark with just about everything you could imagine in a great map. This large level is inside and outside and has every weapon in it, plenty of ammo and powerups, and even a great trap. It should play as good as it looks. The only thing it really needs is you and 15 opponents.

A wonderful addition to our killer maps selections. Mark just keeps getting better with every level he makes. This level has everything you and 7 other people need to have a blast! I found the layout to be near perfect for some serious game play. The architecture is superbly created and was a lot of fun to look at too! I thought it has just the right weapons and ammo too. Get this today and kill your friends and foes =)

10-26-98    Sunday  671k    DM 2-10
Authored by- Michael Drummond (aka weasy)

This large map by weasy was sent to me b4 it was uploaded. I made sure it was indeed uploaded. Well constructed and balanced this map would be perfect for those eraser bot CTF games. All the weapons are in there (yes, even the dreaded widowmaker BFG) but aquiring them can prove to be difficult because weasy has taken the time to place them appropriately. I couldn't spot any obvious texture flaws in this large-scale map, and the lighting was adaquate throughout. If you have a bunch of freinds with a bunch of computers, get together and throw this in their face.

Authored by- Mike Daugherty (aka Jerkoff)
I really like the simplistic design in this map. There is just enough arcetchture here to keep you interested. Texture usage fits the overall feel of the map and the lighting lends to the atmosphere. I think the wind tunnel could have just as easily been a lift but it works well with the rest of the level. The map is set up so that you can easily escape if your being followed, which is something you don't see in a lot of maps. One more thing, Eraser bots love this map. The dynamic node table generation lasted around five minutes before it was complete. Another hats-off go to Mike.

11-19-98    MarTim16 "The Countdown"  900k    DM 2-10
By- The MarTim Team

The Martim Team made some of the best Quake1 maps that I remember and in this newest installment, the "old school" feel sure shines through. This is a really fun map to play because it has many of the elements that made Quake so much fun to play. From the architecture to the flow and balance of the level, you can really tell a team effort goes into their maps. I, myself, probably couldn't work with so many people on one map but hey, if it turns out this good it can't all be a chore. I do belive all the weapons were in here and I know they were placed well. Texturing is very well done as is the norm with this team. It was made for the Immortal Hours II LAN tourney in the Netherlands and I'm sure they had a blast playing it. Oh yeah if you don't know the individual members of the Martim team they are Tim van Hal, Marco van Schriek and Roel Tiemessen. Head over toTeam MarTim and check out some of their other work.

10-3-98    The Dent  701k   DM 2-8
Authored by- Jason Jeannette (aka Bugman)
In the text file, Bugman calls this a medium sized map. He must think big because this is MASSIVE. He is right though. The play area itself isn't all too big but the architecture is huge. Lighting is done very well throughout and the texturing is flawless. Most of the weapons are in there (less one BFG), and adequate ammo is provided. You should probably have at least 32megs of RAM or you might experience some speed hits. Even on my P233 MMX 64meg there were a few places where the framerates seemed to jump a bit. That aside you really should download this one.

6-22-98    The Killing Machine  228k    DM 2-8 players
Authored by- Sten Uusvali
Yet another fine DM level from Sten. This level keeps his normal level style intact and although basic, can still prove to be a very tight, fast moving DM level. Make sure to be on the top area otherwise you may get punctured by a grenade from the heavens. Sten has managed to keep a basically flawless level design alive with a perfect set of textures derived from the standard texture set. There is nothing thrilling about this level as it keeps the basic formula of mass destruction and tight, fast paced DM play alive. I am certain there will be more high quality levels from this author and I am certainly looking forward to reviewing more of his levels in the future.

7-18-98    The Grit (v2)  303k   2-32 players DM
Authored by- John Schuch (aka Hal9000)
Hal9000 rarely ceases to amaze me. I'm not sure about this map housing 32 players, I would say only about ten to twelve. The use of indoor water in this map is done very well, considering it has more of a base or installation type theme to it. Textures are very well done, and the lighting feels right. Expect to do some searching for the quad and have a rocket launcher handy when you find it. Its hard to get lost in this and once you know the locations of your favorite weapons, expect some quick kills. The layout isn't too complicated so using it with bots should be a breeze.

Authored by- John Schuch (aka Hal9000)
I'm not a very religious person but when people say "ask and you shall receive...", believe me, you WILL receive. After Hal9000's last map I asked if he would do a remake of The Slimy Place, he did, and this is it. I was surprised that he actually did it. Texturing is great, pacing and balance is great, lighting is great... well, you get the picture. There are plenty of large areas in this map so unlike the original, you won't always be falling into slime. I can say so much more but I'm pressed for time and I'm sure you'd rather be fragging someone rather than listening to me praise an outstanding map. Download this now.

9-19-98    The Sanctuary  274k   DM 2-8
Authored by- Mike Mueller
This is one good looking map. Mixing large areas with small ones. It also sports a very nice outdoor area that you don't see in many deathmatch maps. Why? Possibly because they are hard to make to look believabe. The author does a good job here though. The map has some unique archetecture and texturing. The lighting is great and the balance and flow are well done. Average in size and great for about six people.

9-8-98    The Other Warehouse  350k   DM 2-10
Authored by- John Schuch (aka Hal 9000)
Yes!! Another great Hal 9000 map. This time he gives us a remake of The Warehouse, arguably the best point release DM map. I really enjoyed playing this just as much as I enjoy playing the original. Architecture is just as good as IDs, as is the texturing, lighting, flow and balance. Look, what I'm trying to tell you people is to stop reading this review and download the map. I'd be really happy Hal, if you did a remake of the slimy place ;).

5-7-98    The Rage  225K    DM 2-8 players
Authored by- Sten Uusvali
This level was really fun to play, just like the other ones from Sten that I have had the honour of playing. The basic setting of the level is your average joe base map, but its dark and has the space sky instead of the normal planet sky, which made this level cool just with that. The lighting is really erie which made this really cool. Imagine hiding in one of these thousand shadows and railing someone. Now tell me that would not be fun. Most weapons are in here and the ammo is spread out fairly evenly and is there right when you need it the most it seems. Multiple stories with medium arena's makes dropping a lot of grenades on people such an ease. I really think you should check this level out, but i think you knew that already, so go download. NOW!!!

11-8-98    The Rust Bucket  460k    DM
By- Martin Kilcoyne (aka Killer)

I think we have a new winner as my favorite deathmatch map to date. This one looks great, runs fast and is an absolute blast to play. I've stated it again and again, but this waste theme is my favorite theme for any map. Martin has brought new life to my love of this theme. All the weapons are there except for the hyper-blaster. The BFG has been included, but to aquire it you must risk your life. You'll understand what I mean the first time you're melted. Even the invulnerablilty is in there. The architecture is stunning and textured flawlessly. The lighting makes this rust bucket seem even more dank than it already is. There is the constant sounds of piping slime throughout this map and it adds even more character to this already first-class map. Please, someone out there get ahold of Martin and see if you can put this map on a server. After you've done that, tell me!! I would happily show up with bells on :). It really is that good. Convince someone you know to put it on a server. Just stop reading this and do something!! Download this map and see for yourself. DO IT!!!

Very impressive Michael. The overall feel of this one is compact and due to the nature of it, requires you to be a little more careful with some of the bigger guns. I've been impressed be some of the unique situations in this last bunch of levels I've looked at and this one is of no exception. I particularly liked the way the quad was acquired. Lots of places to go for the person who likes to explore and all you snipers out there will enjoy the way Michael has built this. Trust me on this one, listen to what is going on around you. If you know the sounds of the game, it helps you out in the long run. Another highly recommended level.

12-21-97    The Warfare Warehouse 2    434K    DM 2-16 players SP (sort of)
Authored by- Ludovic Texier
A really intense deathmatch map with a lot of things to do. It had great balance and provided areas for just about all types of combat situations. I liked it also because it has a single player mode full of monsters which were pretty tough to beat! Too bad he didn't put an exit in it...

More outstanding work by Michael. Relatively small in size, but none the less great. Another map that forces you to listen what is happening around you. Many great ::ahem:: camping ::ahem:: spots in this one, so watch out. Lighting is good and goes excellent with the chosen textures. The theme is some sort of an installation, I think. Many places where you could get the Sh!t scared out of you, if you don't know what's going on around you. I love when that happens :). I hope to be doing more reviews from this particular author in the near future.

7-19-98    Uberdm and Uberdm2 (The Law)  769k   2-16+ players DM
Authored by- John Schuch (aka Hal9000)
Summed up in one word... HUGE! Hal9000 created this map for Uberfest '98. Don't know much about it. The detail in this level is amazing. From the giant reactor to the moving crates. There are even some sneaky lava traps in here that reminded me of "Claustrophobopolis" in Quake. Quite possibly, still my favorite Quake 1 DM level (and I've played A LOT!). The weapon placement obviously had a lot of thought put behind it. The BFG10K is in there and its not hard to find, but I never figured out how to actually get it (Anyone?). Hal9000 may have just put it in there just to tease the BFG people. The ambient sounds in this were placed so that in just the right parts of the maps it would be quiet and ominous. The only way to appreciate just how great this map is, is to download it. There is another map in the zip which is also very good and worth a look co-authored by Andrew "LaRd" McIntyre entitled "The Law". UberDM comes HIGHLY recommended.

This level since it has been revised is now pretty stunning when viewed with my 3dfx card. The lighting is great and the overall layout is excellent too. I sort of felt like I was on a 3d chess board with this one with the multi-levels and ledges he has included. There are even two secrets which will come in handy. I know you will enjoy this fine map.

1-25-98    Underworld Outpost    165K    DM 6 Players
Authored by- Russel Hayward
I really enjoyed playing this level, It had some neat contraptions, one of which you can see in the screenshot, it traps people in the water with this lock thing, then when they come up for air, you can shoot them, hahahaha...It had just enough space to get in and out, but not too much to where anyone could shoot you, the only real complaint that I have is that the bridges aren't quite wide enough for Internet DM play due to lag and the buttons that control a door or two. But those are my ONLY complaints. Bravo !!!!
