crash's single player quake and quake2 page

I think it's pretty safe to say that most companies are looking for folks who can do great single player levels... A lot of people do deathmatch, but single player takes a bit more talent (in general).

December 17, 1998

I'll keep this short and sweet: as of this moment, crash's Quake and Quake2 level review pages will no longer be updated. You've all probably guessed this moment would be coming due to the lack of updates and information and suchlike. I regret that I was unable to reach a final decision more quickly, but between finals (I now have a BA in English; the diploma should arrive in March 99, I hope), searching for a job (and I do have one, finally; it'll be nice to have income for a change), and working on other things, I just didn't have the time to get into updating the site.

Truth to tell, I'm getting kind of tired of Quake and Quake2 single player; though the arrival of Half-Life definitely hastened this, it wasn't solely responsible for it. It's hard not to get bored with something when you've been doing it daily (or weekly, or, near the end, monthly) for over two and a half years. Mad props to all the news page guys (Blue, sCary, Redwood, etal); I'd go nuts if I had their schedules.

I think I achieved what I set out to do -- learn HTML and graphic design, increase awareness of how much fun SP can be, give every single level author a forum in which his/her work could be examined and critiqued, and assist level authors with how to make quality levels using the style guide and private beta-testing. Since I'd like to be a professional writer of some type, the writing practice helped me out, I think... and the exposure certainly didn't hurt, either. One of my goals has actually happened in this regard as well; I'm now a staff reviewer over at Gamers' Alliance, so if you're curious as to what I'm up to these days on the web, that's where I'll be.

The site archives will stay up as long as TheBlitz and the crew of Quake2.com want to leave them up. I'll always have a set of them on my hard drive, so if they ever disappear off of this URL, I'll put them back up on my time-worn slot on Geocities. If someone would let me know when these pages disappear, I'll put them up on Geocities as soon as possible.

I was going to take this opportunity to individually thank all the people that have written in and visited and contributed and all that, but I've done that before; besides, you all know who you are. I'd just like to say a heartfelt "thanks!" for all of your help and assistance and patronage and, well, everything over the years. The road behind is long and worn, but all the more comforting and satisfying because of that, and the road ahead, for me, is looking pretty good.... in no small part due to you all. For this, I will be forever grateful.

Thank you all, and good night. Stay out of trouble, okay? :)
