I supose you could design them seperately, but them you have the trouble of syncing the frames... this avoids that, and if youve made models for quake animating with a gun in hand is prolly nothing new to you. To re-iterate, here is the way _I_ do it:

Create base, export from LW using qdata. Save as player.md2.
open player.MD2 in qME. Delete gun. Save as tris.md2.
Open player.MD2 AGAIN in qME. Delete player. Save as weapon.MD2 (Remember to link to the skin with the gun... qME has some bugs linking to skins, so you may need NST.)

I use lightwave, but you can use whatever you like.

: : The simpelest way to do it is to model it like you normaly would, then delete the player, save it the result as weapon.md2, then re-open the base and delete the gun. Then save this as tris.md2. Confusing at first, but it aint hard.

: Wait.. let me get this right. It's basically shooting a film of a guy with a gun, but in the editing, you take out the image of the guy, only leaving the gun. That is weird. Wouldn't there be an easier way of doing it?
