need help with spm license for XSI

Can anyone help me with the SPM license server for XSI?
I follow the guidelines but it doesn't run. I even changed my COM, but still nothing. I found out that I have to change the variable SPM_HOST. What is this? How I do this? Please help. I need to learn this program to find a job.
