Did your max come with a manual by any chance?
I suggest you buy some type of book, say
inside 3dsmax vol I. It will teach all the
basic functions and once you know those
it be just like using SI, ok maybe not.
Either way you go into sub object vertex mode
and just select them. Its an arrow button,
or use the cross button to select and move them
or scale...etc...
