As if you haven't heard by now, Unreal.ORG has closed as a gaming site. This marks the end of an era, the Org was a true classic and will never be replaceable, no matter how many new sites throw their hat into the ring. The Org staff has decided to keep maintaining their IRC server (irc.unreal.org) on the GamesLink network, and has promised to keep maintaining several other services that they had provided in the past; but the Unreal website as it was is gone. We at Quake2.com would like to wish the entire Org staff the best of luck on whatever they may decide to do in the future.

In the Name of Science...
We got this interesting request in the mail today, check it out:
I'm a brain research scientist at Columbia University in NY. We are currently doing brain activation studies involving navigation. In simple english, we put someone in an MRI scanner and have them play a Quake level, then watch which parts of the brain are used. We are currently faced with an interesting need. We want to design a quake 2 level with only navigational challenge. no enemy, no weapon, no interaction, just finding a way through a maze. If you could help us with any aspect of designing and implementing this level we would be greatly indebted.
If you'd like to help these researchers out, you can contact Joseph Grun for more info.

To those who were not selected, thanks for taking the time to write in, and I'm sorry I couldn't personally respond to each message.

Get A Job at PC Gamer
PC Gamer sent along this notice of a new (paying) position they have:
PC Gamer is creating a level add-on section for its web site, and needs someone to help with the maintenance of the Quake 2 and Unreal sections. This paid, freelance position requires someone who knows both games like the back of their hand (single- and multi-player) and is extremely reliable. We prefer to hire someone who has past experience running (or contributing to) a similar web site. The site will be updated weekly.

What's the job? You must play through all new single- and multi-player levels for both games and select the best ones out there for inclusion on the PC Gamer website. In addition, you will need to provide 2 screens and a 20-25 word synopsis of the level.

The position will pay $400.00 a month. (Since it is a freelance position, no benefits will be paid, taxes will not be taken out, and it can end at anytime.) In addition, you will be able to say that you help out PC Gamer Online, one of the largest gaming sites on the web.

Send your name, e-mail, phone, and a listing of related experience to bharms@pcgamer.com.
