Call it an "automatic scatter gun" if you will, but it remains a shotgun.
Shotguns can really hurt if you get too close, so keep your distance when
fighting these enemies. They are, like the light infantry, very weak, and can be taken out
with two direct blaster hits. You can distinguish them from the other
soldiers by the dark green clothing.
